Why Change? The End Game While many new technologies are coming to light that reduce emissions, improve efficiencies, or reduce our reliance on foriegn oil for current internal combustion vehicles they are all small incremental steps that each take separate investment, and willingness for change. As a society we have worked hard enough and progessed far enough to take a single step to the best final answer. Electric vehicles are the end game. - Plug-In Motors' electric vehicles have zero emissions. - Plug-In Motors' electric motors run at up to 95% efficiency. - Electric vehicles can reduce our need for imported oil to zero. In a report from the US Government (the Annual Energy Review) it was reported that our transportation sector used 27.2 Quadrillion BTU of Petroleum in 2006. The same report shows that we imported 29.0 Quadrillion BTU of Petroleum in 2006. Thus, if all the 23 million vehicles in the USA today were converted to electric, we would be an oil exporter. We hope you'll consider purchasing an electric vehicle now so you can contribute the the solution. The Environment Emissions Electric vehicles produce zero source point emissions, and when combined with wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, nuclear, or wave electrical generation techniques the overall level is zero. The California Air Resources Board estimates for California alone, there are 6500 premature deaths, 9000 hospitalizations, 1,700,000 respiratory illnesses, 1,300,000 school absences, and 2,800,000 lost workdays per year. These numbers increase significantly when we add the rest of the country and the rest of the world. Brake Dust Brake dust has been found to be a carcinogen, as such any amount is too much. With our regenerative braking, our electric vehicles reduce brake wear by about 90% Water and Ground Pollution Our electric vehicles eliminate the need for gasoline, engine oil, and engine coolant. Saving Money While the initial investment for an electric vehicle is significant, this investment is paid back over time. While gasoline prices are increasing significantly every year, even at $3/gallon, a vehicle that gets 18mpg will cost $16,267 for fuel to travel 100,000 miles. The maintenance of the gasoline vehicle would cost an additional $5,220 over the electric. A total of $21,487. Our Plug-In Panther will only cost $1,400 for electricity and maintenance over the same 100,000 miles A $20,082 savings for every 100,000 miles driven. If gasoline prices increase to $5 per gallon, the savings increases to $31,293 / 100,000 miles. At the same time, as more and more vehicles are converted to electric, the price of electricity will go down. Although this sounds impossible, it's true. The reason behind this exciting opportunity is that our electricity plants currently waste a significant amount of electricity during the evening and nighttime hours through a process called "freewheeling". They have a crew run the powerplant all night even though the electricity is not needed just so that the powerplant is up and running and able to perform the following day. Unfortunately for the powerplant, they do not get any revenue for the energy produced in the evenings. If however, we convert to electric vehicles, and charge our vehicles overnight as is the common practice, the powerplant now has a revenue to offset the cost of the people who are working in the evening. The total revenue goes up, but the costs are constant. Thus, they can charge less for each kWh's sold. To prove the point, it has been estimated that 80% of our 23 million vehicles could be powered by the existing electrical powerplant infrastructure. Reducing Oil Imports As stated earlier, the efficiency of electric vehicles and powerplant generation of electricity is so superior to internal combustion engines that the United States of America would be an oil exporter if we converted all of our vehicles to electric vehicles. Reducing our oil imports would significantly improve our standard of living. Summary While each of these opportunities is significant enough to drive our society to electric vehicles, combining all four presents what we at Plug-In Motors believe is an overwhelming case for change. We hope you agree. |
